“Please Consider Helping With This”
Sunday afternoon, June 28th at 4:30 p.m., we are holding a practice for a very special choir and I am praying you can help with this. You don’t have to sing great, and you don’t have to sign up permanently for the choir. All you have to do is show up that afternoon and we will take care of the rest.
My prayer is that we will have at least 40 from our church and 30 from other churches in our community to participate which will give us the largest choir ever assembled on the Parkway for a Community Worship Service. I promise it will be a very special moment.
In order to accomplish this we must have some of you who have never sung in a choir before and that is fine. It will be easy and it will be fun.
“Our Single Young Adult Sunday School Class”
Several of you have been kind enough to ask how my Sunday School class is going. From my perspective the answer is, great. They are a wonderful group of men and women. I really enjoy some of the questions we discuss and to be honest they are a lot more conservative in their opinions than I had anticipated. They are very knowledgeable about the bible which speaks well of the teachers they have had in the past and of their desire to know God’s will in their lives. Don’t worry about our church; they are going to make some great leaders in the future.
May I also say that it is a fun class to teach? We are averaging about seven or eight each Sunday and this number will hopefully increase with the addition of some new High School graduates this month.
Communicating with them is a lot harder than other classes I have taught, they are so busy. I have learned that I can’t simply pick up the phone and call them at the end of the day, mainly because their day lasts a lot longer than I want to stay up. I can’t call them early in the morning because their day starts later than mine. But I have “text messaging” and I have a computer, which helps a lot. Another thing, they don’t respond to letters sent through the US Postal Service. I tried that a time or two and the letters just set on their dressers for several days.
Another thing I have learned is that being 19 or 20 today is harder than it was when I was that age. More drama in their lives than I remember. Plus choices, lots of choices, that have to be made
Please pray for them and for me. It is enjoyable and it is challenging at the same time.
